The Relation between Health and Dental Implants

Every person makes a conscious effort to eat right that helps to him or her fit and healthy. But our choice of food is also influenced by the strength of our teeth. In the absence of one or two teeth we tend to choose for soft and easily swallowing food. These choices are unconsciously made according to the oral condition. Thus a person may eat food that is easy to swallow but not necessarily be a healthy option. But as suggested by our implant dentist specialists at NY, this problem can be overcome thanks to dental implants. Dental implants feel as well look like natural teeth and thus aide in chewing.

What missing teeth does to the jawbone

When a number of teeth are missing the jawbone of that area begins melting away slowly which greatly impacts the facial appearance. The facial skin greatly relies on the upper and lower jaw bone, thus giving it a definite shape. But when these bones deteriorate and slim down, it leads to wrinkles and premature ageing. In such a case, dental implants are extremely beneficial as it helps to slower the loss of jawbone. This keeps the facial skin intact looking good, without signs of ageing.

How dental implants improve overall well-being

Staying fit means eating healthy. But our eating habits are due to the strength of our teeth. Surprisingly, the absence of even one-tooth makes us choose foods that are easy to swallow and chew. We automatically desire to eat soft food. Our oral status decides the food we need to eat. Hence, the food that is eaten for the sake of convenience with easy chewing or swallowing does is certainly not wholesome. The implant dentist specialists at NY suggest that dental implants make a lot of difference in our food choice. The implants are strong and give us the ability to chew food without any difficulty. They seem like a natural tooth and sufficiently aid the process of mastication.

The effect of missing teeth

Missing teeth can tremendously affect the jawbone and face. It immediately changes the appearance of a person. The jawbone slowly melts or even in some cases disappears, which results in altering the shape of the face of the person. The bones start losing weight and they decline which leads to wrinkles in a person. Many people also look old though they are quite young due to jawbone loss. However, dental implants give more texture to the skin, keeping it intact. This makes the person look good and restores youth in the person.

Understanding the mechanism of wound healing

Introduction

Wound healing is defined as a complex and continuous active progression of skin’s self method to restore its broken cellular structures and damaged tissue layers in order to protect itself from further harm. Skin is the organ most susceptible to any injury, minor cut, laceration or rupture due to plenty of outside sources, hence gets easily damaged. This repair process is adopted by skin to maintain the integrity of its superficial and deep layers.

How many types of wound formations are there?

·         Inflammation
A provocative response by skin and manifestation of clinical signs like warmth, erythema and swelling.

·         Superficial wound
It is formed after rubbing of skin on abrasive or rough surface to cause friction. Only outer layer is damaged while deep layers are intact.

·         Puncture wounds
Injuries like knife stab, stepping on an iron nail results in a puncture wound where the points of these objects re sharp and can extensively damage skin.

·         Deep abrasion
A long deep cut to penetrate till muscular or bony level.

·         Animal bites
It can result in a surface wound, deep abrasion or puncture wound depending upon the extent of bite.

·         Pressure sores
Commonly found in immobilized patients, or wheel chair bound patients. Ulcers are seen on buttocks, elbows, ankles or shoulders due to persistent pressure over bony area or one particular area.

Alternative treatments for peripheral neuropathy

When the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord are damaged they result in a set of symptoms called Neuropathy, since such nerves are referred to as peripheral nerves the condition is also known as peripheral neuropathy.

Patients present themselves with classical symptoms like tingling sensation in the feet and hands, there are times when frank injury occurs and the patient does not feel the pain.

People who are risks for these could have any one of the conditions or behaviour patterns. Like diabetics with poor sugar controls, people with autoimmune diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, people who have received organ transplants, alcoholics, and people with Vitamin B6 deficiency are also high risks.

There are also conditions of occupational disease like carpal tunnel syndrome in computer workers, or people using clutches or growth compressing the nerve.Hypothyroidism or decreased efficiency of the thyroid is another common cause for neuropathy.

Neuropathies are treated by relieving pain in non-depressed patients. Sometimes anticonvulsants are used too in peripheralneuropathy treatments. As they function blocking the calcium channels. In extreme cases opiods have been given but by and large they are avoided as they can cause addiction.

How to manage your back pain with simple lifestyle modifications

A brief about low back pain

Back pain is the most common occurring problem these days to at least 50-60% of human beings irrespective of their age. It is a matter of serious concern as there are many bone related changes, inflammation and muscular weakening taking place simultaneously between L1-L5 vertebras. Low back pain can affect young people due to bad body mechanics and old people due to pathological changes in the spine. Patients with low back pain, New Jersey are mostly women, smokers and obese people.

Is sedentary lifestyle related to backache?

If you have engaged yourself in activities like jogging, walking, playing sports or doing extra amount of work by all means, you are less prone to develop back pain as compared to an otherwise healthy subject who is less active by choice.

Intake of tobacco and alcohol in any form depletes the calcium and mineral deposits from bones and can cause low back ache even if the subject is active. Work stress, excess bending or stooping or doing too much of heavy tasks can also cause fatigue to back muscles and lead to backache. The favorable level at which a person may recognize his pain producing symptoms differs from patient to patient and thus rest must be done to prevent further discomfort.

Initiating wellness at workplace

What is workplace wellness?

There are a lot a lot of people who consider their work as priority and health as something which can take care of itself with time. Such people are never able to strike a right work life balance and hence expose themselves to many ailments which are either related to occupation or which are being neglected for a long time.

This affects their working capacity in due course of time which has led many companies to come forth with ideas of operating onsite clinics to treat injuries at work and painful conditions like cervical pain and back pain which is most common in corporate sectors. This not only provides primary care and preventive screenings but also provide easier accessibility in emergency situations.

Goals of workplace wellness

It aims to relieve the pain, teaching good ergonomics like postural training while sitting and conditioning the muscles to bear stress. The therapist also does job task analysis, teaches how to use body mechanics and exercises that can be done even at work.

Common pain medication side effects

Working of pain medicines

Analgesics or pain killers come under various formulations depending upon the severity and extent of pain. If you are suffering from any kind of dull or excruciating pain, you can seek an expert opinion at the center for pain relief Bergen country, NJ. The approach becomes crucial when there are any other associated abnormalities like hypertension, liver problem or nephritic syndrome. The pain killers once took release endorphins in the blood stream which deactivate the pain producing receptors and give temporary relief.

What are the common mistakes a patient should not do?

Misuse of doctor’s prescription

Doctors prescribe pills that are safe and provide more relief and less health risks.  A pain killer reacts in a slow sustained manner; hence doubling the dose yourself will eventually precipitate the harmful effects.

Seek quick pain relief

Always take only one class of pain killer at a time to minimize side effects. Taking over the counter drugs along with the prescribed analgesics to find a quick relief in all the ways is detrimental to abdominal and nervous system.

Breakthrough by Great Scientists in Cancer Research

Appreciating their contribution in Medicine and Psychology, three eminent scientists were given due credit in 2011 and Nobel Prize was awarded to them. It is a matter of pride to note that two among them were previously grantees of The American Cancer Society. Cancer center Tulsa appreciates their significant works towards cancer research. Below are some of their works and research modalities.

Dr. Bruce Beutler – The innate immunity theory

As an established scientist, Dr. Bruce Beutler is a professor at the Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, California expressing his proficiency in Genetics and Immunology.  To develop and research studies related to the activation of innate immunity he was granted The Research Opportunity Grant for  $120,000 in 1992 for an year to further delve into research findings to support his study. The study was about TNF synthesis in cancer.  Dr Jules Hoffman who is the Head of a laboratory in Strasburg France also helped me in this theory. The research was done only after six years of receiving the grant from the American Cancer Society.

Dr Beutler and his team researched on receptor proteins and how it can identify entrants in the human body like bacterial microorganisms. The theory is known as innate immunity and came to light in 1998. There were more efforts to support this theory and progress it to a higher level. The aim was to develop vaccines against infections. The final result would be successful in curing diseases like curing rheumatoid arthritis, type 1 diabetes, multiple sclerosis, cancer, and chronic inflammatory diseases. Stimulating immune cells with the help of receptors, agents were researched to support the fight against cancer.

Colorectal Cancer Treatment in Philadelphia

If you (or a loved one) are concerned about developing colorectal cancer, are going through treatment, or have just been diagnosed, here is what you need to know about the condition and treatment options.

Overview

Colorectal cancer is cancer that occurs in the colon or rectum, parts of the large intestine. The colon, also termed the large bowel, is a muscular organ that measure about five feet in length. The rectum forms the last six inches of the digestive system. The walls of the colon and rectum are formed of many layers of tissues. Colorectal cancer typically starts from the innermost layer and gradually spreads outward, penetrating a few or all of the layers. The extent of spread determines the stage of the tumor.

Most colorectal cancers start as a polyp – a tissue growth that develops in the lining of the colon and rectum. While there are different types of polyps, not all are cancerous. A type of polyp, referred to as adenoma, can become cancerous. Treating or removing a polyp early is the first step in preventing colorectal cancer.

How breast cancer risk can be reduced withweight loss

Cancer affects several post menopausal women who have a health risk with obesity problems. The research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has given several insights about weight loss being beneficial to many women. The case was studied in a random atmosphere but a controlled one. It was noted that obesity definitely had a link with estrogen effect and breast cancer. Dr. Anne McTiernan, M.D and PH.D, along with her team of experts studied the subjected and the findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. She is also a member with the Public health Science Division. The study shows several facts that will be helpful for breast cancer therapy.

Breast cancerdiagnosis and related facts in this study:

After studying the subject DrTiermanwho is also the Director of the research center mentioned that it is encouraging to note that even a 5% loss in weight reduces the risk towards breast cancer in such ladies to half. The studies were worked upon women who did not go for any kind of replacement therapy in hormones. A linkage of estrogen and body fat was studied and it revealed that obese women were more prone towards breast cancer.

Women in Seattle, belonging to the age group of 50-75, were divided into four main groups. They were people who did not do anything for their weight loss, brisk walking enthusiasts, dieters and others who combined dieting along with exercise. The result was that ladies who combineddiet only and those whose had a combination of diet and exercise showed a lowered risk of 10%.
