How breast cancer risk can be reduced withweight loss

Cancer affects several post menopausal women who have a health risk with obesity problems. The research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has given several insights about weight loss being beneficial to many women. The case was studied in a random atmosphere but a controlled one. It was noted that obesity definitely had a link with estrogen effect and breast cancer. Dr. Anne McTiernan, M.D and PH.D, along with her team of experts studied the subjected and the findings were published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology. She is also a member with the Public health Science Division. The study shows several facts that will be helpful for breast cancer therapy.

Breast cancerdiagnosis and related facts in this study:

After studying the subject DrTiermanwho is also the Director of the research center mentioned that it is encouraging to note that even a 5% loss in weight reduces the risk towards breast cancer in such ladies to half. The studies were worked upon women who did not go for any kind of replacement therapy in hormones. A linkage of estrogen and body fat was studied and it revealed that obese women were more prone towards breast cancer.

Women in Seattle, belonging to the age group of 50-75, were divided into four main groups. They were people who did not do anything for their weight loss, brisk walking enthusiasts, dieters and others who combined dieting along with exercise. The result was that ladies who combineddiet only and those whose had a combination of diet and exercise showed a lowered risk of 10%.

The blood levels of sex hormones were studied along with diet and exercise programs and below study was also regarded :

1. Estrone, free estradioland estradiolwere studied as estrogen facts.
2. Total and free categories in Testosterone  were looked into.
3. Aandrostenedionewas also studied as it produces sex hormones and SHBG protein to    get the hormonal effect activated.

Breast cancer risk was lowered in women with obesity and risk in the following interesting study.

  1.       The estrone decreased to 9.6% with just diet therapy and 11.11 including diet-exercise.
  2.       The estradioldecreased to 16.2% with just diet therapy and 20.3 including diet-exercise.
  3.       The free estradioldecreased 21.4 % with just diet therapy and 26 % including diet-exercise.
  4.       The SHBG levels increased 22.4 % with just diet therapy and 25.8 % including diet-exercise.
  5.       Free testosterone levels decreased 10 % with just diet therapy and 15.6 % including diet-exercise.

One effective way to lower breast cancer risk in obese women is to combine a healthy diet regime along with exercise. This lowers estrogen risk, which also makes the bone and muscle strong.Fruits, vegetables and fiber intake lowers the blood estrogen level which can help a person attain a proper lifestyle.

Many obese ladies use drugs like raloxifen, exemestane and tamoxifen to prevent breast cancer. But there can be harmful side effects and they are not effective after a span of 5 years. DrMcTierman opines an intelligent weight loss program with exercise and diet as this promotes good health in the long run and is excellent for most of the post menopausal age groupwho have a greater risk towards breast cancer.
